Traditional Christian keerthanais are composed in a mixture of both Sanskrit and Tamil, the word for this is “manipravallanada” in Tamil (there is no equivalent word to describe it in English). Since most of our Tamil keerthanai lyrics are based on manipravallanada, the present generation, let alone the younger one, is finding it difficult to understand it. Most do not understand nor have an inkling of the incredible depth involved in every song, and the meaning of it gets lost with each subsequent generation. GAMAZ is a band created for this express purpose of reviving traditional Christian keerthanis, and the currently seven-member band has been performing in various places, explaining the meaning behind our traditional keerthanai songs.
